Abstract

Based on the acquisition of expensive vehicles to expand the Jalisco's police fleet, including three Cybertrucks—which Governor Pablo Lemus justified as a necessary investment to improve the perception of security in a state that ranks first nationally in the number of disappearances—this article discusses the state's capacity to guarantee security within a capitalist order where violence is an inherent part of the accumulation process. Given this situation, the article proposes analyzing security as a spectacle where technology is a valuable resource; a myth that is useful for the state and capital because it legitimizes the use of force to guarantee social order, and because it justifies the persecution of classes that are dangerous to its maintenance, such as the poor and workers who have historically been surveilled under the pretense of crime prevention.
